‘I’ve always considered my work to have a political and social commentary, but it has tended to be hidden among an array of other aesthetic/thematic/atmospheric layers. On the contrary these works lay my thoughts bare, and from a point of view that I see as having a slight shift of emphasis within my work. They use a perspective of looking at my own position in the world, my own privileges and circumstances, or those of people like me (middle class white men) as a starting point for asking what can be done to make the world a better place. As such I mean them to be critical but not in a finger-wagging, self-righteous, morally pejorative way, and instead in a self-reflexive, self-critical and genuinely question-asking way.’ – Eddie Peake, September 2017
