My paintings are inspired by intense observation of my surroundings. They are autobiographical. Objects, self-portraits, and interiors fill my canvases. I am most interested in mood and atmosphere, and all the thoughts and feelings that swirl around and in between us as we move through the world. I fish for colors, shapes and compositions that will capture or reveal an expression of a moment that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Letting Myself In (2021) captures a return home from a night out with friends and the transition between public and private realms, where the memento-mori skull reminds us of our finite number of days. For Reflection (2019), I found a two-faced sculpture in the school’s prop room. With the addition of a mirror, I was able to create a scene that suggests multiple views or understandings of the self, much like Self-Examination (2021).
