Discovered in Arley’s Tea Cottage, a whimsical 19th century addition to the garden, it suggests the incongruous possibility of a milkman calling at this dwelling. Just visible in the second, empty bottle is a note which reads ‘I will be away until further notice’. It is only the title of the work that betrays Miller’s characteristic dark humour. Stephen David Wyatt Milligan was a British Conservative politician and journalist, and the subject of lurid tabloid headlines after he was found dead in his flat in Chiswick, London in February 1994, strangled by an electrical cord during an act of autoerotic asphyxiation.
