A material of the urban and modern, in this context, the neon words can be read as an invitation to consider present and past, innovation and tradition, time and memory. The artist’s works deal with language and perception; Evans harnesses the potential of words to create moments of rupture, which open up alternative ways of perceiving. In his ongoing series of neon text works he uses favourite passages of text or the subtitles from films to create open-ended, thought-provoking works.
